Two large round areas of consolidation in the apical segment of the left lower lobe and posterior segment of the right upper lobe abutting the horizontal fissure. Air bronchograms are evident within the opacities.
No mediastinal lymphadenopathy.
The lungs are clear.
Heart size normal. Normal mediastinal contours.
Case Discussion
Bilateral lung opacities in the lungs are not always metastases. The clinical and demographic details of the patient are important considerations.
Round pneumonia in adults is not terribly common, least of all bilateral.
Undertaking a CT was a little keen in this case. A follow up chest x-ray and patience is often all that is required.
