Presentation

Left flank pain, hematuria and recent systemic hypertension. History of recent blunt trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female
ct

An 85 x 80 x 60 mm subcapsular fluid collection with a dependent eccentric relatively hyperdense non-enhanced component is present at the lateral aspect of the left kidney, which compresses and displaces the left kidney medially. Regarding the history of recent blunt trauma, features are compatible with left renal subcapsular hematoma with a dependent clot.

In addition, fat stranding and a small volume of fluid accumulation are seen in the left retroperitoneal space, lateral to the psoas muscle. The left quadratus lumborum muscle is also enlarged, inferring post-traumatic changes.

Case Discussion

A case of Page kidney, or Page phenomenon, refers to systemic hypertension secondary to extrinsic compression of the kidney by a subcapsular collection such as hematomaseroma, or urinoma.
