Presentation

Small posterior scalp swelling

Patient Data

Age: 9 months
Gender: Female
mri

Midline T2-signal void vascular structure extending from vein of Galen to posterior part of superior sagittal sinus, appears stick-like in MRV sequences.

High level tentorium cerebelli, with prominence of superior cerebellar cistern.

Also midline, subgaleal cystic lesion at posterior fontanelle, with intracranial extension, and protruded subcutaneously.

Case Discussion

Persistent primitive falcine vein, drains into posterior part superior sagittal sinus. This vein points to a subcutaneous scalp lesion, with CSF tract, with prominent superior cerebellar cistern, suggestive of atretic occipital cephalocele.
