Serous inclusion cysts of the ovary

Presentation

Pelvic discomfort.

Patient Data

Age: 85 years
Gender: Female

Well-defined unilocular right ovarian cyst (4.5 cm) of homogeneous fluid content with minimal surrounding effusion. It displays a low signal on T1, a high signal on T2 with no restricted diffusion or evident enhancement on postcontrast sequences. No internal septation or solid component.

Heterogeneous endometrial thickening (15 mm), thickness >5 mm in a postmenopausal woman is considered abnormal (biopsy is required).

Case Discussion

The patient's age (postmenopausal) and MRI features are most consistent with serous inclusion cyst.
