Suspicious breast calcifications

Suspicious breast calcifications are calcifications within the breast that are not benign. These calcification need further work up and biopsy.

The BI-RADS lexicon includes four descriptors of suspicious calcification morphology on mammography:

  • amorphous
  • coarse heterogeneous
  • fine pleomorphic
  • fine linear or fine-linear branching

These can be combined with the BI-RADS descriptors of calcification distribution (besides diffuse, which is almost always benign):

  • regional
