Supraorbital vein

Last revised by Craig Hacking on 7 Mar 2019

The supraorbital vein drains the anterior part of the scalp and forehead 1. The supraorbital vein drains into the superior ophthalmic vein and the angular vein at the root of the nose 2.

Gross anatomy

The supraorbital vein drains the forehead venous plexus and descends along with the supraorbital artery. Before reaching the supraorbital notch it has a branch which joins with the supratrochlear vein to form the angular vein 2. Once it has traversed the supraorbital notch, the supraorbital vein joins to help form the superior ophthalmic vein 3. The supraorbital vein also has communications with the superficial and middle temporal veins 2.
